A spontaneous continuation of From Myanmar, With Love, created in Nigeria around the same simple question: “What is the meaning of love?”
FROM NIGERIA, WITH LOVE
The idea began years earlier in Myanmar, with a simple question: “What is the meaning of love?”
While living and working in Nigeria, I found myself returning to the same question. This time, there was no plan to create a new project. I simply started approaching people I met and asking them to write their own answer in my notebook.
Their answers were as different as the people themselves.
“Love is understanding and care.”
“Love is a decision of commitment and lots of sacrifice.”
“Love is choosing to see the beauty in others.”
“Love is blind.”
“Love can change someone for good.”
Some spoke about trust, kindness and patience. Others described love as a choice, a commitment or an act of giving without expecting anything in return. Faith also appeared in several answers, alongside friendship, family and romantic relationships.
What stayed with me was how often love was described not simply as a feeling, but as something you choose to do, to care, to give, to be patient, to commit and sometimes to sacrifice.
There was no single definition of love. Just as there were no two people exactly alike, there were no two answers quite the same.
And somehow, almost without realising it, a spontaneous collection of faces, handwritten words and personal interpretations of love began to take shape in Nigeria.
